clothes closet

The Clothes Closet opened in 1959 when a letter to "lemme doit" prompted three parishioners at a neighboring parish to begin the ministry of clothing school children. From 1964 to 2001 the Clothes Closet was housed in the diocesan house at Christ Church Cathedral.

With the closing of the diocesan clothes closet, St. Mark's now participates in the Clothes Closet effort of United Crescent Hill Ministries.

Families are referred to the clothes closet by social service agencies, schools, and churches. Each referral is good for two years, during which time the client can receive new and used clothing every other month.

Each school age child receives new socks and two pairs of new underwear. Two children in the family may receive new blue jeans or new uniforms for school. Children also receive school supplies. All members of the family may select what they like from a large array of used clothes and household items.

Money donated is used to purchase new school clothes for children. Everything is free for the clients.
